Description

A Sportsman’s Sketches” is a collection of short stories by the Russian author Ivan Turgenev. Originally published in 1852, the work is also known under the title “Sketches from a Hunter’s Album” or “Notes of a Hunter.” The stories are based on Turgenev’s own experiences and observations of rural Russian life, and they were instrumental in raising awareness about the harsh conditions of serfs, contributing to the movement that eventually led to the emancipation of the serfs in 1861.

The collection is noted for its detailed and empathetic portrayal of the Russian peasantry, its rich descriptions of the natural landscape, and its subtle yet powerful critique of the social and political system of the time. Turgenev’s prose style in these stories combines lyrical beauty with a deep sense of realism.
