Description

A Martian Odyssey” is a science fiction short story by Stanley G. Weinbaum originally published in the July 1934 issue of Wonder Stories. It was Weinbaum’s first published story, and remains his best known. It was followed four months later by a sequel, “Valley of Dreams”. These are the only stories by Weinbaum set on Mars.

A Martian Odyssey” is a first contact story and all it involves. Tweel is everybody’s favorite alien. “A Martian Odyssey” anticipates both ET and Arrival. And I think that’s the heart of what I’m trying to get at in these essays. The best science fiction stories are those that come closest to the ideal forms of science fiction.
